A couple years ago, I started preserving flowers and making things from them. Necklaces, bracelets, mason jars, frames, gifts. There’s something so special about repurposing what was once flourishing. Instead of letting the flowers wither away, they serve a greater purpose beyond the garden or vase.
The more I’ve learned along the way, the more my intentions have changed.
It first started in a season of abundance. I wanted my favorite flowers to last forever.
Circumstances changed. I was devastated. This craft then became a way for me to remember God’s faithfulness, even when circumstances begged me to believe He wasn’t there.
Today, I’m able to preserve flowers for friends and help them see things the same: regardless of what season you’re in, God is faithful to bring about beauty. Even in the most unlikely ways or places.
I’m in the process of writing a book on perseverance and flower pressing…more on that to come. (If you’ve read any of my flower-related posts, you have some ideas.)
I never thought that my writing ministry would expand into a small business endeavor…but here we are. Pressed Not Crushed Co is officially launched! The name comes from Isaiah 53:5 and 2 Corinthians 4:8. I won’t explain too much here, because, if you order from me, you’ll get a short devotional on this topic. 🙂
"But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 (ESV)
"We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair" 2 Corinthians 4:8 (NKJV)
From the verse in Isaiah, we know that Jesus was crushed for our sins.
In 2 Corinthians, Paul tells us that we are pressed (or afflicted) and not crushed.
Jesus was crushed…but we aren’t. Because of Him, we aren’t defeated. We can press on in faith, knowing that the best is still to come. It may not look like what we expected, but it can still be beautiful.
