Puerto Rico missions 2023: There’s so much to unpack (besides my suitcase), so my posts won’t be in any specific order.
On the last day of the mission trip, our team sat in amazement at what God did in this community. Yet we felt unsettled with the unknowns as we took our final drive out of town. We didn’t know if another storm would ruin the repairs. Or if the children and families who said “yes” to Jesus would have healthy discipleship. Or just how the mission of the local church would advance in the coming weeks.
How did I handle it? I prayed over whatever I saw out the window on that clear, hot morning. When looked up, I noticed this rainbow. A reminder that God won’t destroy His people, no matter how intense the storm (Genesis 9:15-16). Evidence that God remembers, and He finishes what He starts (Philippians 1:6).
"I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” - Genesis 9:15-16 (ESV)
"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." - Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
As we departed, God reminded me that He has the final say. Even the wind and waves have to obey the voice of Jesus (Mark 4:41). He would keep His people safe.
We can depend on God because He keeps His promises. There will always be a rainbow at the end of a storm, even if we don’t always get to see it. And we can trust God with the outcomes because He is the one always in control.
From what the local church has shared so far, God has continued to meet their needs. The things we accomplished are blessing their community. And there’s still so much more to come for them.
To everyone who prayed for me, my team, and the mission trip – I can’t wait to share more about what God did this past week. Your prayers mean so much and they did make a difference. Thank you!
